Massage is a Necessary Luxury

Taking the time for a massage might seem impossible in our busy lives, but it is time well spent. Most of us spend our days in the office using our bodies in the same patterns every working hour. Think of how much time you spend in front of a computer or how many times you reach for supplies. Without realizing it, your body is taxed throughout the day, especially when sitting in the same position for hours on end (more on workplace stretches in a future post!). We may only become aware of the stress when our body begins sending pain signals. Then we scramble to find a miracle worker (aka massage therapist).

Massage reduces the level of cortisol in the body thus lessening the symptoms of depression and/or anxiety. The body is designed to heal itself, so rather than taking medication (which often simply masks symptoms without addressing the root cause of the discomfort), a massage can sometimes be even more effective with virtually no side effects…and is a more organic way to heal.

The human body requires around eight hours of restorative sleep, but sometimes it is difficult to leave the office behind despite our best efforts. And once at home, it can be difficult to “shut off” our brains and fully relax. However, you may be able to sleep better and become more relaxed with a regularly scheduled massage. Care for your whole body one session at a time.

By scheduling massages on a regular basis, we can prevent juries and protect our bodies. Not only is a massage a preventive measure, it is also a necessary luxury. Those sixty minutes of bliss are the ultimate “me” time. Designate a massage as a reward for tasks accomplished, a way to recharge your batteries, or “just because.”

The key is not to wait until an injury or chronic pain prevents you from leading the best possible life. Book an appointment today and treat your body to a necessary luxury.
